Is the Moon Beautiful Tonight?
It was Nighttime in the castle of Dreams, an army of stars in the sky blaring their soft light down upon the world. The full moon hung in the sky, it's eerie glow glistening off of the top of the eyes that patiently looked up at it. Alexander sat staring up at the worlds beyond his own, humming a strange medley before he quietly began to sing it. "I wanna be, where the people are..." The young prince sat in simple but elegant uniform from the day's coronation, stargazing as he contemplated his new destiny.
Alexander had always been surrounded by nobility. As long as he could remember he was a direct relation to the royal family, his family rich and prominent. Never would he have imagined recent events unfolding as they did- the entire royal family slain, all except for himself. Several high-profile nobles, many members of the King's court, those that could feasibly do anything to repair the world. But they man in the mask missed one person. Alexander was special, and because of that unique trait he was spared. Alexander lacked a last name.
As he entered the chorus, he felt a nudge on his arm. He turned his head and was faced a Meowjesty, it's strange eyes surveying him and it's tongue sticking dumbly and innocently out of it's mouth. It shook it's head at the prince, indicating it's displeasure with his song choice. "Wrong one, huh?" It nodded at Alexander, audibly exhaled in displeasure. Alexander sighed in return. "Sorry..."
The creature adjusted it's stumpy legs, spreading them as it's large, plump body laid against the the roof of the castle. It let out and odd noise and Alexander began to gently scratch the creature's head. He was silent for a while- quieter than he normally was. The creature seemed to notice this, and despite it being rather pacified by Alexander's gentle head scratching it pressed it's head against his hand, shaking Alexander's fingers from it's fuzz as it pressed against him, nudging it's shoulder with it's round head.
Alexander looked at it, and smiled sadly. "I don't know what wrong, Meow... or, I guess I do? It's just so much. Feels a little stressful. Feels a little weird." It huffed at him empathetically, and he nodded. "Honestly? Yeah." The creatures groaned, a high-pitched noise of discontent rumbling from within it's chest. "They said she's a princess. Pretty, probably. Princesses usually are." Meowjesty purred lightly.
"No, it's not that. I don't think it is... I'm not even sure where she's from or what she's like." It gave a question mew in response. Alexander's eyes finally returned to the sky as he sighed in exasperation. "Good thing everyone is asleep," he placed his hands to his forehead, still gazing up at the clouds that edged over the moon. It sheathed itself in a blanket made of cumulus, and Alexander stood up to head back into the castle.
Alexander's shadow showed across the darkened floors, the moonlight steadily casting a strange, almost white light dimly behind him. Making a strange bounce noise at his rear came Meowjesty, moving down the hall gently while Alexander headed towards the door. "It's pretty late, Meow," he proclaimed in silence. The blurb of response was a verbal nod in agreement for the Dream Eater. Alexander wasn't particularly sure how he understood the Dream Eaters- he just did. Always, since he was younger.
"Maybe, but I don't think they'll show up yet. Three in the morning? There's nobody to greet them." The strange creature made another series of unintelligible noises, to which Alexander completely understood. "I guess. Wouldn't that be weird though?" The quiet noises continued, to which Alexander shrugged. "I'm not sure. If they're nearby then wouldn't there be no time difference?" Another garble.
"I haven't the faintest, actually. Sometime in the morning, but who knows when morning is for them?" Alexander came upon his door and opened his room up to the castle, Meowjesty remained outside behind him, and murred ponderously. He partially passed the threshold before he looked back. "Just gonna read for a bit. I'll catch you tomorrow night. We'll take a walk through the forest then, deal?" An affirmative raspberry came from the creature's exposed tongue as it smiled with its face, and vanished in a puff of darkness. Alexander smiled back, closing the door behind him.
