Monty is a dependent coward, relying on me for decision making, survival, and -- worst of all -- moral support. He's an overemotional creature, showing empathy and sympathy to any godforsaken charity case, sentience or otherwise. Fortunately, through the years, he's learned the consequences of disobedience.

And, I suppose, if I were to list his redeemable qualities, they'd be: his loyalty, morality, and understanding. These tools keep me in touch with society, understanding proper social cues and behaviors, even if I do not agree or act on them. Despite his inability to speak, he is persistently annoying, a testament to his ambition.

But he'll never do it himself.

Eleven years ago, on the cusp of adventure, my friends and I had only just left our world. Noble and naive, we played hero, and tried saving helpless animals in Deep Jungle from a Heartless attack.

Through and through, we were failures.

Each of us were slaughtered, first was The Hero. And when he fell his treasure found me a fit wielder. Little did it know of my upcoming failures. I thought myself much braver, but I valued my own existence over my comrades, and found myself torn and indecisive. Maybe, had I done something, they would have lived, but I hadn't.

And they died.

Despite my best efforts to survive, I found myself cornered and exhausted. Their numbers and endless stamina were overwhelming, and I too fell. On the outside looking in, maybe I wasn't as brave as I thought.
