Vocil Dawnbreaker
VOCIL DAWNBREAKER
"We fight 'til our last breaths! For the glory of the dawn!"
ELEMENTS
APPEARANCE
| RACE: Elf | AGE: 314 | BUILD: Average | HAIR: White | EYES: Green | SKIN: Pink |
Vocil is a race that is seldom seen or known about; a high elf. Though most elves are lean in both muscle and tone, Vocil is much bulkier by elf standards due to his martial training as a fighter. However, despite the extra mass that he has gained from his discipline, he still maintains his natural speed and agility, able to print, vault and flip effortlessly even in the midst of combat.
Like all elves -- particularly males -- Vocil tends to groom and care for his body and image, especially his hair. A natural white-silver color, his hair is tied up at the back in a wild ponytail, with a couple of bangs that drape over each shoulder and two that frame his face.. Though it looks unkempt, Vocil spends much time in how his hair looks with absolute precision.
While most high elves have shining silver or light blue eyes, Vocil's are of emerald green. Though unnatural and unknown within elven society, some believe that it signifies great power or destiny. Others, however, see it as an unnatural occurrence and a cruelty delivered by fate.
Vocil's choice of wardrobe is unorthodox given his martial proficiency. Whereas fighters and warriors don themselves in elven chain or mithril plate in order to bear the brunt of heavy blows in the midst of close quarters combat, Vocil instead wears a cloth kilt and sleeveless shirt with the only form of plating being a decorative loin piece down the front, his gauntlets, and a single pauldron with his House symbol. Decorative in black, red and gold as is the House colors of the Dawnbreakers, it stands out more so than the blue, teal and silver motives of other elven fashion.
PERSONALITY
Like all elves, Vocil finds himself higher than other sentient creatures, and like all high elves, views himself higher than that of other elves. Despite this, he is very low key when trying to assert himself with this assumption in mind, never showing any arrogance, forcefully trying to push his authority onto others, or even outright saying it. Unlike most other elves, Vocil tends to aid, approach, and coexist with those he would deem lower than he is, as do most of the high elves of House Dawnbreaker.
Kind, generous, and overly good hearted, Vocil often finds himself either tending to the depraved or out on the battlefield, doing what he can to help and protect his people like others in his House. A person who has no want of fame, fortune or person glory, he tends to keep only what he needs and what has sentimental value to him. Vocil has no love for anything of monetary value, and only keeps a small portion of whatever he can acquire if only to "earn his keep" and to spend on equipment repairs; anything more is given to the needy or the poverty-stricken.
Some consider Vocil one of the more approachable high elves, even within House Dawnbreaker, because of his seeming lack of disinterest in the "class system", at least within elven society. More often than not elves tends to steer clear of him due to him being a high elf, though those that would be in his company quickly find it more pleasant than they had anticipated. Vocil is not very talkative, but says enough to keep a conversation going. A somewhat lax and patient individual, Vocil is very down-to-earth and matter-of-fact with his words, having no form of subtlety to his speech when talking to the "lower" individuals, which can be misconstrued for arrogance, ignorance, of callous, despite his better intentions.
Despite all that he does, Vocil still fears of his home being brought to ruin, and does whatever he can to protect it to the point of being borderline zealous. Despite having a patient disposition, that patience will be quickly worn away by those who have hostile intent towards his people, his heritage, or anything else that targets his race as a whole, whether their intent of through verbal or physical means. An elf who can hold a grudge, Vocil is known to be single-minded when fighting an enemy and his disposition cruel and uncaring until they have been beaten.
HISTORY
Vocil was born on the world of Lathander within the elven city of Queldorah, a city that is considered to be the heart and cornerstone of civilization on Lathander. Born into the 6th generation of House Dawnbreaker, he was trained in the martial prowess of the Dawnguard; a sect of fighters within the ranks of Queldorah's military trained in a finesse fighting technique that is only passed down to descendants within House Dawnbreaker. Despite the strict teachings of his discipline and the stern upbringing by his parents, Vocil was a lot more relaxed and carefree in his childhood.
As he grew older he began to appreciate the more serious nature of elven society, especially where his duties and the protection of his people were concerned, although he still maintained his usual open demeanour. Although House Dawnbreaker has always been seen as protectors and have had prior history of low key-fellowship with the "lower" elves, Vocil's blatant acceptance and coexistence with them was considered uncouth and insulting to higher elves, causing the other Houses to disassociate with them over time. Though House Dawnbreaker have little care in terms of society standings within the other high elf Houses, Vocil was reprimanded for diminishing their reputation, and reminding him that he should not be so nonchalant with the lower elves.
Despite his superior's words, including that of his father, Vocil continued to live amongst the other elves, though refrained from talking to them as much as he could. It was then that he had met a young girl, Valeria Springsong, a flower seller who only had her job through force to support her family. As they began to converse on a regular basis, Valeria revealed that she wanted to become a soldier in the military as a means to better protect her family. In hearing her story, Vocil began to give her a portion of his rewards in order for her to help her family financially to allow her time to train.
However, the high elven houses caught wind of this and began to quickly sever all ties to House Dawnbreaker, citing that Vocil's (misconstrued) intimate relationship with a lower class woman was an affront to all high elves. As punishment, Vocil was disowned by House Dawnbreaker and stripped of his rank, title, and equipment.
Vocil became bitter towards high elves, and as such disassociated himself with any of them, including House Dawnbreaker. Vocil lived for a few years amongst the lower class, but found himself caught in limbo between the two classes of elven society; the high elves looked upon him with disdain due to involving himself with the lower classes, while the lower classes did not appreciate his company due to him being a high elf despite his removal from their standings. Despite this, Valeria continued to support him through his troubles as a sort of payment for helping her financially, her and her family grateful for all he has done and allowing him to stay with them.
Vocil saw Valeria as a younger sister of sorts, and in spite of his former House, began to teach her in the Dawnguard's secret fighting techniques as a means to deliver the ultimate insult to House Dawnbreaker. Valeria was incredibly quick to pick up on his teachings, even more so than the training she had received from the elven barracks. Vocil believed that her lithe figure and coordination was the main reason for her hasty accomplishment in learning the style.
However, the ire of the Dawnbreakers was great, and sought to rid both of them through trial and execution. With Vocil and Valeria on trial, it was Vocil's mother who served as prosecution towards them, citing that Vocil had violated the oath he swore to the House Dawnbreaker and the Dawnguard in that he would never spread their teachings to "outsiders", explaining that if others outside of their order were to learn then it could spread further and further until their enemies knew of their arts, removing their advantage over the opposition and threatening Queldorah. However, Vocil countered by stating that House Dawnbreaker disowned him and effectively removed his presence from their history, and thereby rendered the oath void. The prosecution continued to argue that, while he was indeed removed from House Dawnbreaker, he was still part of the Dawnguard and thus the oath was still in effect. With nothing to respond, Vocil went silent. As the judge was about to deliver the verdict, the watchers burst into the court and yelled of an Orcish invasion from the Hellreavers. Postponing the trial, all military personnel, including Vocil and Valeria, were to drive back the invasion attempt.
Vocil was forced to fight with only his casual attire and a long sword, although it was adequate enough for him to maintain a decent offensive. The invasion lasted for hours, with casualties on both sides of the struggle. Fighting and protecting whoever stood before and by him, his efforts were both noticed and praised by lower and high elves alike, even by those of House Dawnbreaker. As the invasion was driven back, a tired Vocil and an injured Valeria were escorted back to the courthouse the following day.
Continuing from where the trial left off, the prosecution became less adamant in having the two of them executed, but refrained from speaking. As the verdict was about to be delivered, however, a person rose out an objection from amongst the spectators, citing that they both risked their lives to drive back the Orcs. Another objection arose, followed by another, until dozens cried out for appeal, the courtroom erupting with cries. It was until minutes later than order was established once more, and the defence was given a chance to further defend themselves before the verdict. It was then that members of House Dawnbreaker began to plead innocence for the two of them, stating how they had saved them from being killed.
The prosecution was shaken that her own House would rush by the side of two who had defiled their oaths. However, after being prompted by the judge, she gave Vocil and Valeria an option; they were to continue with the trial, or Vocil would be reinstated back into House Dawnbreaker and have all charges dropped against him. Despite the dumbfounded response of the two of them, the prosecution reminded that she said only Vocil would be pardoned for his crimes, but Valeria would still be executed for her knowledge of their arts, though adding that this too could be dropped if she were to join House Dawnbreaker as well. As the caught fell silence, the two of them readily accepted the offer.
Vocil was taken back to House Dawnbreaker, having a meeting only between him and his mother and father. His father admitted that he let his pride and his reputation overwhelm him to the point that he chose his standing in high elf society over his own son. Openly weeping in front of him, he pleaded Vocil for forgiveness. With a smile and a hand on his father's shoulder, Vocil said that they were both to blame for what had transpired and that, because he was forgiven at the court, he had already forgiven him then. After a moment of pause, his father excused himself, leaving Vocil with his own mother. Somewhat bitter, Vocil asked why she opted to be the prosecutor as opposed to his father. She responded in that she wanted to see for herself his conviction, and that he would do anything to protect his people. Though it was not through his words and instead of his actions, she admitted that she wouldn't have seen it if it weren't for the untimely invasion. But she did admit that she never intended to have them executed, but just wanted her son to come home. Tearful, Vocil embraced his mother and stated that he had come home, to which she jested that Dawnbreaker men were always so sensitive.
In the next couple of years both Vocil and Valeria had become greater friends and had become captains of the Dawnguard. However, both asked if they would be given leave in order to explore the world beyond. With permission, the both of them decided to go their separate ways. With all of their goodbyes said and done, the two ventured off into the World.
