Abel, The Sentinel of Nothing Empty Abel, The Sentinel of Nothing

Post by Abel Fri Jul 31, 2015 9:41 am

Name: Abel
Age: Unknown
Species: Nobody/Golem

Primary Elements
1.) Nothingness
2.) Space

Personality: Abel is a curious creature, one that has a tendency to wander from place to place in search of something to sate its desire to study, or otherwise butt into the business of natives on various worlds. The nobody can be a bit overbearing at times, not truly understanding the concept of personal space. Should the sentinel find a person or object worth examining, it will do so for an unknown period of time, wanting to learn whatever it is inside and out. While Abel considers this a hobby, in reality it's a borderline obsession, the thin line only being separated by personal or embarrassing affairs involving the target of its curiosity that it will not delve in to out of some semblance of respect for their privacy. Abel does understand the concept of friendship, and due to its constant state of awareness  it realizes its appearance can be a bit off-putting. It doesn't blame,  become angry, or even condemn those that choose to peer at the sentinel in fear or disgust. It knows that it is an oddity and reactions like that are to be expected. Abel won't let such a thing deter it from taking the occasional trip to populated areas, no matter how they react.

Typically non-hostile unless struck at first. Those that seek to do harm to the Sentinel, or any of its nobody brethren, will be met with swift, deadly force. It holds no pity towards those that rush to violence and will not hesitate to meet with as much strength as necessary. It holds no concept of pride. Once combat initiates, Abel is one who'll use everything in its disposal to end the fight as soon as possible, holding little care for much else outside from its species or things of interest. Buildings, onlookers, etc is seen as nothing more than collateral damage to the creature. So long as the target is neutralized, there is very little that will cause it any sort of grief should the end results prove disastrous.

History: Abel, there isn't much to say about him, her, it. Before the change, Abel led a life of servitude as a magical construct. The mage, the one whom bound a once human soul to the rocky form, was a rather curious sort. This user of the arcane sought to have Abel act as a conduit of sorts, one that follows him into battle, ready to bestow MP onto him so that he may continue fighting. A wild dream to be sure, as items of that nature were still unknown to the populace on their world. But, it wouldn't stop the mad scientist from performing spell after spell on Abel. After all, a golem is a non-living thing, it has no concept of pain, it's not as though the residual magics could alter the mage's little pet project. At least, that's what was what he originally thought. What he didn't realize, was that those unstable spells awakened something in the golem: anger.

Because of the ritual the magic user underwent, Abel didn't hold even a smidgen of free will. There was nothing preventing it from being subjugated to the path leading to dozens of failures. Each one, imprinting itself onto the otherwise blank slate. Every incantation, every wave of the hand, all of it and more went into this obsession, slowly but surely it'd warp the unfortunate soul. Fire, so hot that it'd seemingly turn the solid rock into molten lava. Limbs froze, unable to move due to the metallic portions that came about as a side effect to a misplaced word from an old tomb. A long laundry list of torturous events to be sure. One that irked the construct to no end. The same questions, ones that this fresh consciousness could have done without, played on repeat day in and day out.

Why a spell using these elements? All of them are made for damage, what would it accomplish being used for this purpose?
Did the mage have a real goal in mind? A plan to follow through with? Were the notes he writing worth the time spent?

Inquiry after inquiry, the rage now rising to a boiling point at the realization. It's master held no plan of action, he was doing this blind, without any sort of direction. The battle mage held no regard for it, there was no sympathy at experimenting on a human soul trapped in rock. In fact, the magic wielder himself told the golem that if these spells kept falling flat, that he'd just scrap it and move onto something else. As if Abel had any say as to whether or not the regenerative magic stayed. It was nothing more than a servant, why did it have to worry about its own life over things out of its control? Through all these various thoughts, all thanks to the sadistic spell weaver, would coalesce, and all it'd take is a single, faulty spell.

Surprisingly, it'd be one that would work, but not in the way the mage wanted.

The months of magic wore away at the gems implanted in the shell, the ones keeping the mage's will tethered to Abel. Ones that could only handle so much themselves before cracking, and unleashing a fury the likes of which he'd never come to fully realize. Giant stone slabs Abel would later call his hands saw to that. When the sentinel was done exacting its revenge it had no inkling to the amount of red it'd spread among its prison, or to what the negative emotions managed to attract. Before it could even taste the sweetness of freedom, the darkness those horrid experiments exhibited brought forth creatures seeking to consume the hearts involved.

With the mage having passed on, all that remained was Abel, and even though the magic still residing inside made it a daunting challenge, those starving monsters were unable to feel intimidated. Instead they'd rush in droves, opting to bathe in the darkness it was releasing in such excess. Whatever it was the mage thought to use, it did nothing more than seal the fate of that world. While Abel would fight off the beasts in the tower, the ones whom inevitably ppear to replace the fallen foes would spill forth. And though Abel finally got to taste freedom, it wouldn't last for more than a few weeks before the world fell to the darkness. Abel, along with its world, were thought to have vanished from existence.

But, should your heart want something desperately enough, a miracle borne of that emotion, may come to pass. Abel wanted nothing more than to experience the life it wasn't able to have, and with it being cruelly snatched away, it wasn't as if it could move on. So, instead of fading, the same element that ended the world, would invade Abel much like the mana of the dead spell warrior. Unlike the experiments, the darkness had no intention of being used like the energy within a battery, instead it sought the power the sentinel managed to absorb. With no means to defend itself, the dark easily won that power struggle, resulting in a split.

The heart once bound in the rocky form, was free to be consumed, resulting in a humanoid heartless, free from the chains of servitude.

The shell however, would eventually grow of its own accord, creating a consciousness unique to the original slave. Both without a purpose or any sort of drive, the two would wander their separate paths letting instinct be their guides. Whether or not the two would cross or if their initial, brief meeting was truly the last, remains to be seen...

But, if there's anything either of them could get out of all of this, is that their presence in the worlds has not gone unnoticed. They both became the natural battery the mage wanted oh so desperately, but not in the way they were intended. Instead of granting others the power to fight on, they'd instead act as beacons, attracting others of their kind to them. Not only would the duo be granted a means to forge their own destinies, they'd also have plenty around to witness whatever it is they chose to do.

Other Notes:

1. While not invulnerable, Abel cannot age.
2. It can mimic any language it's exposed to, but it cannot speak more than one at a time.
3. Abel holds a soft spot towards fellow nobodies, believing itself to be a sort of father figure to the lesser dusks.

All I will offer is the following:

The second to last passage states that the shell itself had no sentience. From what we understand, this is not true. In order for it to have become a Nobody, the shell must have retained a soul. This would naturally grant the shell its own sentience and autonomy. The Heart itself has memories and consciousness related to the body and soul, but the Heart is distinctly different from the soul, which is referred to in Kingdom Hearts alternatively as the mind.

In turn I would suggest a slight edit to the history to reflect this.
